What to do in the Aberystwyth area

Around Aberystwyth itself, there are a range of places to visit and things to do. You could pop down the River Rheidol and visit the Magic of the Butterfly House, Rheidol Power Station or Rheidol Riding Centre! Further afield are the towns of Aberaeron, Newquay, Machynlleth and Cardigan, which make Aberystwyth the perfect central base for you to explore and enjoy all that Cardigan Bay has to offer.

The town itself is a popular sea side town, and also a University town which gives Aberystwyth a unique feel. Busy all year around, unlike most sea side towns, Aberystwyth doesn't close down during the winter months! With the Aberystwyth Art Centre at the top, two cinemas and plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes the town has much to offer "off-season". There is Ceredigion Museum which is home to a wealth of local and Welsh historical artifacts and exhibitions, and there is also the National Library of Wales which has fantastic views over the town and also has exhibitions within which are free to visit.
